Is air travel on the verge of a breakdown?

Air travel is on the verge of collapse. Or at least you could be forgiven for thinking so. 

This week, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg called the airline industry "very brittle." The Association of Professional Flight Attendants went a step further, describing the system as close to a breakdown.
