Savneet Cheema recently paid $11,458 for a roundtrip business-class ticket from Dallas to Sydney. So when her premium seat didn't recline on the booked-to-capacity Qantas flight, she didn't know what to do.

An airline representative apologized and told her not to worry. Qantas would refund her entire business class airfare for the flight segment.

"An agent told me that customer service would send an email as soon as I reached Dallas," she recalls. "I trusted them."

She shouldn't have.
