In this podcast: It was our third trip to Sydney, so we skipped the Opera House and went looking for what people do when they live here. This is what we found.
Barcelona. I never get tired of Guell park, all the Gaudi architecture, mercado la Bocaria, los Ramblas, the Gothic district, along with the tapas places. We love staying at La Meridian right on los Ramblas, a couple hundred feet from La Bocaria.
I have really stepped up my travels, both abroad and in the US. I could happily return to many of the places I have toured. The top of my list would include Orkney and Shetland Islands, New Zealand, and the Baltics.
Paris— to show the city to my two almost-20 grandsons, a city where I lived for five months and have visited about 15 times as a participant in UN technical meetings held there.
We have traveled a lot (not compared to the Elliott men, of course) and love many places. But we both agree the trip of our lifetimes was our 2015 month long trip through South Africa. The first half of our journey was spent on safari (camera only) starting with the incredibly luxurious Jamala game reserve and proceeding east from there to more reserves, ending at Phinda, all amazing. (we plan our trip, rent a car, and drive ourselves which often makes a different kind of adventure). Replaced my husband's long lost wedding ring in Durban. The last ten days or so we switched to our second love (after the animals) food and wine. Capetown has some of the best restaurants in the world. Stellenbosch stellar wines - the wineries are spectacular and serve great food. We have visited wineries from Napa to Walla but we never saw baboons wandering through the vineyards before). We can't afford to return and fear if we did things would not be the same, but that trip was a high point in our lives. It bears mentioning that we flew on Emirates business using our Alaska miles points (recommend) and that allowed a three day layover in Dubai which was very interesting.
I keep going back to London (6 times) and San Francisco (6 times). Having been raised in NYC, I've always been a "city person." I love cities that are walkable, have great museums and interesting theater and other cultural events. Good food is a plus.
Beyond the obvious of London (4 times) and Paris (next week will be my 4th as well), I yearn to go back to Prague. Fascinating history, good, solid food and beer, not expensive, beautiful art, and deeply, intensely weird. Real tragic life happened there--the Germans, the Soviets, etc.--and now there's a Hard Rock Cafe where people were dragged away to the camps. It makes you think hard about how easy we have it in the US, and how resilient people can and have to be to just continue living.
Tel Aviv - the most alive cool city in which I’ve traveled
Bellagio Italy. The most beautiful setting - I could spend days drinking my cafe Americano and watching how the light changes the view over Lake Como

Japan: the beauty, the history, the kindness of the people, and the incredible cleanliness!

Egypt because of the depths of history.
